Vintage FAQ

Why vintage clothing?

By wearing vintage, you are wearing a piece of history. The quality and craftsmanship of clothing made before 1959 was just better. All the little details were hand done. Can you imagine that before the 1890's, most woman had to make all their own clothing themselves? All the embroidery was done stitch by stitch, by hand.

I personally think women were far more beautiful before the 1960's. The way they wore their make up, the lady like hats and gloves, and those amazing pointy bras of the 1940's and 1950's.....

I fell in love with vintage clothing when I was in high school. I will never forget my first vintage 1950's black and nude longline Goddess bullet bra. I wore that thing to nothing! Funny thing was, I bought it at a thrift store and didn't realize that my beloved bra was vintage. Imagine my frustration trying to replace that bra, going to store after store trying on hundreds of bras, not finding one bullet shaped one. It took me a months before an elderly sales lady informed me that they stopped making the Bali Goddess bullet bra the early 1960's! After doing a little research, I realized all the clothes I loved the most dated between the 1880's to through the 1950's.

I want to buy your vintage, but I am afraid it will tear/smell/fall apart.

Vintage clothes are old. Mine are really old. They are fragile and must be properly cared for. I can't guarantee that a 80 year old dress or 50 year old bra won't easily tear. However, being a vintage snob, I am very picky about the condition of the vintage items go up on this site. I do my best to describe the condition they are in. I launder everything before it goes up on the site unless the garment is too fragile to wash. If this is the case, it will be described as fragile and unlaundered.

If you have not worn vintage clothing as old as the items for sale here, please educate yourself on how to care for them before you make a purchase. With proper love and care, these cherished relics live to see another 100 years.

But what if it doesn't fit me?

Vintage items are returnable within 10 days of purchase. See the RETURN POLICY for more information.

I have some vintage clothing I want to sell. Do you buy?

I am always looking for new vintage goodies to add to my site. If you are looking to sell your unwanted vintage goodies, email me with small pictures or links to your pictures with detailed descriptions and the price you are asking for each item. I am especially interested in vintage clothing and lingerie in plus sizes. I do not make offers and will not appraise your items for you. I only buy items dating from the Victorian era through the 1950's.

TIPS ON HOW TO CARE FOR VINTAGE CLOTHING

1. Store vintage clothing in a cool dark place. Sunlight will fade vintage clothing very quickly because the dyes used in the old days are not colorfast.

2. Do not use hangers on clothing that is delicate. Wrap it in acid free tissue paper. Avoid getting splits in the folds by using crinkled tissue to make a padding between the creases.

3. Hand wash sturdy items in cold water using Woolite or Baby Shampoo. Lay flat to dry. Avoid scrubbing. DO NOT BLEACH! I use an old toothbrush and Woolite to try and scrub out stubborn stains. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

4. Only take heavier items to a reputable Dry Cleaner who knows how to handle vintage.

5. Keep moth repellent in your closet and in your drawers.

6. Be aware of the condition of your vintage clothing. You obviously don't want to go dancing in a 1920's dress in fragile condition!
